1994 In Review:
Impressive albums prove difficult to find in ‘94

Nineteen hundred and ninety-four was a year that produced more great singles than great albums. Too often last year’s crop of CDs featured a couple of fine songs surrounded by an hours worth of mediocre to average music (see Madonna and Prince, neither of whom show up on either my best LPs or singles list this year – a first, I think).

And technically, my No. 1 album of the year came out in 1993 (it was late in ’93, however and neither I nor most of America clued in until early 1994). Anyway, here’s what kept me radio channel surfing and turning on my CD player for the long plays over the past 12 months:
